It’s crushing
So why do we choose it?
Why do we strive for “perfection,”
When we don’t understand what
Perfection
really is?

Beauty
Can only be found
When you take the time to look,
And not just glance.
Your mind is what sees beauty,
Not your eyes.

You know you’ve found it,
When it takes more than one word,
More than one or two syllables,
To describe what you see.
Is she hot?
Or is she beautiful, intriguing?
Is he cool?
Or is he outgoing, engaging?

So tell me, why
Don’t we always feel beautiful?
Ask the cover girls
Surely they know.
No.
Their job is to denigrate our confidence.
Every day.
They are selling something
They fake the happiness
To make us feel inferior.
Nothing exists behind that smile.
And we want that?

Happiness
Can only be found
When we take the time to love,
And not just accept
Ourselves despite the flaws.
Your heart is what senses happiness,
Not your eyes.
