Royal Pains

Challenge 5
Write a poem about Queen Elizabeth as a teen.

Does a royal lady
Ever get a chance to party?
Away from formal balls,
Or making fancy calls…
Oh, can a royal lady
Ever let her hair down at all?

And does a royal girl
Always have a pure, sweet, pearl
of a heart? Or just until
their eyes avert, her place is fulfilled.
Can she listen to hip hop, bounce and twirl,
shop wit’ the girls, eat fries, or just chill?

Does a royal lady
Ever get to freely be
In love with another?
Is the choice ever hers?
Is her value but monetary?
Can she ever be sure?

Those poor royal women
Stuck with paparazzi and doting men
Just figureheads in the world today
Celebrities admired by all except say
themselves? And their talents, to them
are secrets; for a comfortable life, ‘tis the price they pay.

Note: For those who don't know, Fae gives me literary challenges once in a while and I find them quite amusing to attempt. This one was given to me for the trip to Puerto Vallarta in March '08 and I just didn't get around to finishing it until last night. ^^;
