A Moment In Silence ♥

They set out on his black beast of a snowmobile in search of some solitude. Leaving behind the house, and the laughing, chattering throng it contained, they shot off into the wild terrain that was his back yard. The silence of the afternoon was shattered by the roar of the machine, as it carried its two passengers away from civilization. They swerved around a bend in the trail just as one of the surrounding trees dropped its load of snow. He swore good-humoredly. She laughed at the comical sight. Over a hill, between heavily-burdened trees, and out, suddenly, into a clearing they flew. She breathed in the fresh, chilled air. He slowed the sled. Eventually the cushioning quiet was, again, complete.

The two sat and talked for a long while. Then a comfortable silence settled between them, as they took in the beautiful view. She sighed in contentment. He slid off the sled into the snow and pulled her down with him. The light was fading now, so slowly that they scarcely noticed.

Cold snow suddenly began to fall. Thousands upon thousands of huge, white, fluffy flakes, twirling and drifting down to Earth, and coming to rest on everything around him and her. She shivered a little. He put his arm around her. The sunlight was almost entirely gone now. Nothing else in that snow-blanketed place could have been as warm and happy as them. Maybe they realized that, maybe they did not. Finally, the last of the light was being swallowed by the oncoming evening. She looked at him and happily smiled. He kissed her.
