Inspiration of a MetaphorI once read a poem,
A short and simple free-verse,
Describing an apt skier,
Signing the hill with a flourish.
I loved that little metaphor;
It stuck with me for so long.
And I always wished that I
Could create an image that strong.
Somewhat discouraged, I put down
My pen, for good, I thought.
But after some time, I found my book,
And realized I’d missed writing a lot.
I still wanted to impress my audience
With a talent I hadn’t found…
Or at least I didn’t think so
Until I came to this hill and sat down.
I’m watching my grandfather ski, see,
And lines are just coming to mind.
And for the record, metaphors are a walk
In the park, but some are crippled inside.
